Cats and House Plants

Many people are under the frame of mind that you can't have cats and house plants in the same household. That is only a misconception. The fact of the matter is that you don't have to choose.

When thinking of having the two co-existing in your home, you must first remember that there are types of plants out there that most people keep in their homes that can make your cat ill or can even be fatal such as some species of ivy or fern plant.

Then you must think about the fact that cats like to claim the plants. Usually they end up digging up the soil, playing and ripping up the leaves, or even using the soil as a litter box.

This can cause a very stressful situation where the cat feels there is no solution but there is. One solution is to have hanging plants. This is a very simple way to keep your cat from being able to jump into it and mess it up. This is especially helpful if the plant may be toxic to poor kitty. Keeping them from eating the leaves.

If your cat is just eating the leaves you can fix this problem with giving them something more appealing to eat. Go down to your local pet store and pick up pet grass. Most cats prefer this and it also helps with more stomach related illnesses as well. Pet grass can be hard to come by since so many cats love it.

If you can't find pet grass or just rather grow your own. There are seeds you can get for cat wheat or cat grass. Those are also at your local pet store with the other supplies you may need. Although with this option it takes a while for the first buds to sprout and longer for kitty to wait. More importantly longer for you to wait and get rid of your cats behavior problem.

Usually, purchasing cat grass or putting your houseplants out of reach can help with all your cat and house plant issues.
